Institution settings
The school's name, short name, timezone, contact email, calendar feed name and notification sender name.
On this page
Each institution in your organization has its own settings. They decide the school name shown in the workspace, the timezone used for every date and time, the Contact the school address, the name of subscribed calendars and the sender name on school email. Only the owner and organization administrators can change them. The owner can also add schools and archive them from the same dialog.
Steps
- Open the account menu at the top of the sidebar and choose Institution settings.
- If your organization runs more than one institution, pick the one to edit under Institution.
- Update the fields and choose Save settings. The page confirms with Institution settings saved.
The fields
| Field | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| Name | The full school name, shown wherever the workspace lists institutions, for example beside staff on People and in the institution chooser of this dialog. |
| Short name | The name shown in the workspace navigation. |
| Timezone | Every date and time in the workspace, the attendance day, the calendar and the calendar feed. Use an IANA timezone, such as America/New_York. |
| Contact email | The Contact the school item in the account menu and the contact links inside the workspace. Leave it blank to hide them. |
| Calendar feed name | The calendar name people see when they subscribe from Calendar. |
| Notification sender name | The sender name on school email, once email delivery is available. |
Messages you might see
- Choose a valid timezone.: the timezone is not a recognised IANA name.
- Enter a valid contact email or leave it blank.: the contact address is malformed.
- These settings changed. Refresh and try again.: another administrator saved these settings while your dialog was open. Close it, refresh and reopen.
- Could not save settings. Please try again.: the request did not reach the school's service. Check your connection and retry.
Add a school
An organization can run any number of schools, for example a primary academy and a seminary under one mosque. Each school keeps its own programs, students, staff assignments, terms and calendar, and parents see all their children across schools with one account.
- Open Institution settings as the owner and choose Add school.
- Enter the new school's Name, Short name, Timezone, Contact email, Calendar feed name and Notification sender name. The timezone and contact email start from the school you had open.
- Choose Add school. The workspace confirms with the school's name followed by added, and the new school appears in the sidebar School list.
School names must be unique within the organization: A school with this name already exists. Then invite an institution administrator or teachers for the new school from People, choosing it under Institution, and create its programs with the School field set to it.
Archive a school
Archiving removes a school from the workspace while keeping its settings and history. Open Institution settings, pick the school under Institution, choose Archive school… and confirm with Archive school. Undo is available for ten seconds. The last school in an organization cannot be archived.
- Move or remove programs before archiving this school.: the school still has programs. Delete them from Programs first.
- Revoke or reassign staff assigned to this school before archiving it.: an institution administrator or teacher is still assigned to it. Change their access on People.
- Revoke open invitations for this school before archiving it.: a pending invitation names the school. Revoke it on People.
- An organization needs at least one school.: this is the only school.
